“The hot meals we personally delivered are a small token of appreciation for the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice of the health care professionals who serve our communities,” said DeCosta Headley, Founder of the D.R.E.A.M. Foundation. “We depend on them to save lives in these challenging times.”

One of the D.R.E.A.M. Foundation’s vital missions is to help feed those who are struggling to make ends meet. It’s a mission that the foundation passionately pursues throughout the year. However, there’s a particular emphasis on Thanksgiving. On November 18, the D.R.E.A.M. Foundation partnered with the Medgar Evers College Transition Academy program to give turkeys and other food items to students experiencing food insecurity.

Our Family Day is being held in honor and memory of Mr. Gregory “Jocko” Jackson, the longtime manager of the Brownsville Recreation Center, a former professional basketball player who turned a Brooklyn recreation center into a hive of productive activity.

The D.R.E.A.M. Foundation and the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation partnered on Oct. 23 to offer free vision screenings and eyeglasses to students at Kappa V (Knowledge and Power Preparatory Academy) Middle School, located in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

Earning good grades is only half the battle for some students in the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Maintaining a roof over their head and food on the table, while working on a college degree, are additional challenges for far too many. It’s a struggle that administrators at Medgar Evers College in Crown Heights, Brooklyn are well-aware of and making every effort to assist vulnerable students.

It takes more than bricks and mortar to build morals and harmony within the community. Maybe this was on the minds of the first organizers of the Brownsville Old Timers Day Event.
